I just bought a new iMac with an airport card. The rest of the computers in the house are pc's. I'm able to network with them with out a problem when I have a physical cable running to the iMac, but have no luck when I go wirelss. I'm able to pick up the signal, but it keeps asking for a password to log on to the network, and we don't have a password to log into the network. I'm running a linksys wireless b router and linksys cable modem. We tried entering in the WEP Key as the password, but it will not accept it. Any help would be great! Thanks

    Chris

Like most policies, it's there for a reason and is intended to benefit the overall membership.

There's a tradeoff among three less-than-perfect choices for a user's title when they are temporarily banned:
    1. No change in title. The results: Posts by other users complaining that the user is rude, a hit-and-run troll, a scammer, or some other kind of troublemaker because they didn't reply to posts directed at them, even when they had asked for help, they didn't reply when their opinion was challenged, they didn't reply to PMs about Marketplace deals, etc.

    2. "Banned" title. The results: Posts by other users complaining (or celebrating) that the user was permanently banned, because they don't know it's only temporary. Other users would also send emails and PMs and Contact forms to the administrator and moderators, because they thought a member in time-out had been permanently banned.

Note: #2 is vBulletin's default user title for a user with a temporary ban.

    3. "In Time-Out". The results: Posts by other users complaining (or celebrating) that the user was temporarily banned.

#1 has the benefit of better user privacy but #1 and #2 don't do them any favors, since people end up talking about them, calling more attention to their change in status. And #1 gives people a bad impression of them for false reasons. #1 and #2 waste everyone's time and lead to misunderstandings. We switched to #3 because of these very real problems. The problems shown above for #3 occur much less frequently and aren't as serious.

The "In Time-Out" title was never intended to be a warning to other users.

#3 isn't as private as would be ideal, but neither is #1. Experience shows that other users notice when a regular user stops posting, so other users know something happened even if the user title doesn't change. #3 gives the bare minimal amount of information and we don't share the details with anyone but the timed-out user. It's a compromise that has served us well to prevent the problem outlined above.

The title of "In Time-Out" could be some other phrase but it's not clear that it would change the reactions of those who notice user titles and know what they mean. We added the "Guest" user title for cases where a user no longer has an account but has not been banned, to avoid the stigma associated with a banned or timed-out status. It too would have the same meaning no matter what phrase is used.

We'd rather not see gossip about users in time-out. If you report such posts, the moderators can remove them and this will increase user privacy, particularly because the user title will return to normal after the time-out but the posts will otherwise remain.

    6G nano or 6G classic?

For the classic- its rare that i listen to it until the battery is drained with just music, but with my movies and TV shows i usually get a solid 5-6 hours (I'm usually watching with the backlight between 0 and 15%). If i had to take a guess for music, it would be around 20-25 hours for mine.

Try doing a full cycle of the battery- charge until full then drain it running music until it actually dies, then juice it back up again. Did wonders for my 1G touch.

Hey guys. I'm trying to work on a guide page that had a malformed title.

Here's what I did. The original entry was "Power Macintosh G3 (Blue". I renamed that to what the intended title was... "Power Macintosh G3 (Blue & White)". However, I now want to delete the original page, which currently has a re-direct to the new page. However, each time I try to delete it, it deletes the new (correct) page.

How do I go about doing this?

    Here are the links:
http://guides.macrumors.com/Power_Macintosh_G3_%28Blue (you will see the redirect at the top, which was the old title page)

I got a fine link to download the video (thanks to the iPad-useragent ):
    http://m.wsj.net/video/20100605/060110atdjobsfullsession/060110atdjobsfullsession_320k.mp4

Thank you. In the age of streaming video, sometimes a download is still king.

That links information is sadly out of date as Harry Patch (the last surviving man to fight in the trenches) recently passed away. (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=753106)

There are only three confirmed WWI veterans still living:

I've been frustrated with this too - the best I found was Picasa Web Integrator:
    http://www.paulvanroekel.nl/picasa-web-restyled/integrator/

It takes a bit of effort to set up but doesn't look to bad in the end. It works with lightbox as well.

    Good luck!

Make sure to file a bug with Apple.

I did. I just wanted to make sure others know about this issue in case it was to happen to them.

I have a desk from Ikea - lustrous white, suits it well. Can't remember it's name, though...!

For me, the 27" display is a work of Apple genius. The first time one sees it, one almost inevitably thinks, 'Christ! That's huge...!!!'. But when you've been using it for a few days, you're sold. Hook, line, and sinker.

Thanks for the desk info...I'll check it out.

I don't know about where you are in the World...

LOL...look at my location under my user name :D

Same 14 day policy here as well.

A vector file is a vector, is a vector. They are resolution independent UNLESS they have an embedded bitmap. But, if you did a live trace and then deleted the source file, then the resulting (live traced) vector is resolution independent. Meaning, that you can scale it up from postal stamp to billboard size without loss in original quality. However, it might look different when scaled depending on how well you did the original trace.

The client calling to say that you need to supply a file with a different resolution make zero sense, because a vector has nothing to do with resolution. They don't know what they are talking about so you should get clarification before going further.

both are pretty cheap brands (cheap in terms of price and quality). I have some cheap DVD's I bought a little bit ago (100 for $32 or something), and let me tell you, they are almost nothing but a problem. first disc I burnt failed halfway through, second disc wouldnt play in a DVD Player. I gave my friend a few of those DVD's so he could burn a master dvd to get printed and duplicated elseware, and it wouldnt work... then he put a Memorex dvd in and it worked flawlessly.

so basically, in my experience, the cheap DVD media is really only good for data, not video... its kinda hit or miss with video, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt... if you are planning on burning video, I would go with Memorex (I was able to get a 25 pack for $19.99, not too bad).

It depends on what the thing is. Generally in UNIX everything is a file. As such, there is a function "select" that lets you wait for something to change about a file. Is it ready to read? Read to write? etc. Whether that's actually a network socket, a real file, a pipe, etc. you treat them the same. Lookup "select" to see if it will suit your needs. For "system events" like a USB drive being plugged in this may not fit the bill.

Unless we have another avatar contest and you win the contest, you won't be eligible for an avatar until you have 500 or more posts. At your post rate, that will take you almost exactly one year. But you can put a photo in your User Profile any time you like.

Edit: I see that you do have one. Is that you in the photo?
    Yes, it's me.

I bought a docking station for my ipod 3G, a Zenex ZN-DS5007. Everything works EXCEPT charging. It does not support the ipod 3G for charging. Since then, as I search for a replacement, I'm finding that few support the 3G. Can anyone advise me on a good quality docking-charging unit that supports charging the ipod 3G? I want good sound, don't care about radio or clock. I would prefer one that will run on batteries and AC. How much will I need to spend to get a good one? Thanks in advance.

i have a ipad 1 with version 3.2.2 and i want to update it to version 4.2.1 and still be able to jailbreak it. is that possible?? if so can somebody tell me the right way to do it.. thank you

Do you have SHSH blobs stored for 4.2.1? If so you can upgrade to 4.2.1, if not then no. Your only option is 4.3.1, and have you saved SHSH blobs for this version?

I can't wait for the iPad with a 42" screen. I can't wait to try and carry that sucker. Just imagine coming out of Best buy with your 42" iPad and carry case. haha:D
