It's a niche market for now, and most users don't use it at all. But once peripherals start using TB, it will become more widespread. But peripheral manufacturers won't rush out products until there is a good install base of computers that support TB. For that to happen, Apple will need to support it throughout its product line. Whether that happens this year or by the beginning of 2012 depends on when the products get updated. All new Macs will have TB.

Of course, if it's limited to Macs it will still be a niche market. Unless it's adopted by the PC market, it could become the next FireWire (superior to USB in many respects, but not omnipresent like the latter). In addition to hard drives and monitors, I think we'll soon see TB connectors on scanners, cameras and more.
In terms of bandwidth, the desktop can do better by using other cards in PCIe slots. On the laptops though, it offers more bandwidth than they've had access to previously (eSATA ExpressSlot cards aren't anywhere near as fast as TB is).

TB is convenient for laptops and devices as well, which is expected to help promote adoption for that market (i.e. see single disks on TB, and allow for others to be connected to a single port via Daisy Chaining). And Intel's aimed this at all computer users (even seen a phone advertised with TB), so it's not exclusive to Apple. So I do expect more devices to actually ship within a year or so as adoption increases (need more systems to release that are currently in development, as like you, I do see a bit of a "chicken and egg" situation).

This is pretty damn cool. I queried myself (http://blogsearch.google.com/blogsearch?hl=en&q=clay+johanson) and sure enough, they've indexed all of my meager selection of blog entries. And it's up-to-date... my blog entry from WEDNESDAY (2 days ago) is indexed.

Is there any advantages buying it directly from Apple?
Or is it just as good to buy it from some Reseller ?

    Thanks

Theoretically it's the same, practically its easier to return it when you ordered it directly from Apple online...2 weeks returning time if you don't like it.
But resellers might have cheaper prices...

I'm using the account root on Mac OSX Leopard.. When I sign in, I have to type "root" as the username. Ichat and Adium display my name as "System Administrator".
BUT, I went to Accounts and changed both the Computer name and Account name.. to Joey. So why can't I sign in as "Joey", and why doesn't Ichat and Adium show my username as "Joey"?

Great photos! Although it's trivial, it's a cool thought that the moonshine gets reflected by the water, whether you're standing at a lakeshore or watching from space :)

not to sound mean or anything, but why do you need two mac's at 13? I mean I'm 18, at college, and I still run off a 400 MHz G3.

Secondly, iBooks are meant to be durable and portable. I think it can handle being carried around (especially with a sleeve and/or case)

Thirdly and most importantly, coming from a kid who is fresh into college and didn't realize how expensive living on your own is, you should save that money for something later in life. Instead of buying a new Mac (although it is tempting to get yourself a new mac, you don't need it) ask your mom is she will still give you the same amount if you want to invest your money. Save towards getting a car or towards school. Investing early is never a bad decision.

Having two Macs is not a bad setup, but usually people have a portable and desktop because they run processor extensive stuff on there desktop. If you're thinking about an eMac, its not because you need the processor power, its because you just want a new computer. I really believe you should hold off on a new computer for a while. Sorry to be reasonable, but everyone in these forums are so excited about new Macs they don't really think of their computing needs. But that's just my opinion.

Its coming, its coming (no not that!)

Gaming tests etc to follow shortly - Mafia 2, Crysis 2, Portal 2 and Starcraft to be specifc. Gaming tests are a bit hard for me - not the best of players and never played any of these apart from COD MW2 and Blops. But nevertheless, if its what you guys want to see - so be it. Just need a day or two to put some decent gameplay together.
    Crysis 2 first plox!

You should have the "real"s move up and down the columns... like elevators. ;)

Or change the colors of the Real and Fake to fake the viewer out.

Nice, but you might want to take it down to 75 x 75 pixels, to avoid disqualification... :)

    The rules. (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=166868)

Oops! Thanks for pointing that out! I thought I had set it to 75 x 75, but it obviously changed when I was converting it to JPEG or something ...not very experienced with graphic things lol

perfect browser for almost all of my browsing, and on the rare occasion safari.

I hate safari for what it's worth. though I wish Apple would allow other browsers to use the autofill feature.

    Perfect browser?

Why you hate safari so much?

I must agree with every one else. the X800XT is the way to go.

However, if you want to wait a little while longer ATI will be releasing their next core soon.

The next core (R520) will be amazing with core graphics! It can even help decode H.264 video. It will be a very nice step up from the current R420 core.

anybody at the Manhasset store yet? I called the store around 6pm and they said they had about 10 people in line.

My plan is to go around 6am. I'm thinking it shouldn't be too bad by then.

Also - they said there would only be one line for both people who have reservations and those who don't. Kinda bummer because it will slow all the reservation people down.
