In the not too distant future we will be getting convertible iMac's. You have all seen the patents that Apple have applied for, where the screen tilts into a more horizontal position on your desk and is usable as a touch screen device.
When in this mode the screen will be a lot closer to your eyes and would greatly benefit from being higher resolution
That really is such a bad idea :(
Can you imagine the terrible usability in having a screen tilted on it's back and having to lift our arms up to do finger painting.

A better battery is highly improbable. However if you only look at the dark side of an event you pass up any chance of benefitting from it. Certainly it isn't good to have your nukes melt down but this is also a learning opportunity. That is if people can look at what is happening objectively. If all you see is people getting irradiated then you aren't looking at the bigger picture.
yeah we should all be glad we 'll be getting that good japanese radiation soon, and that Tokyo which isn't the closest place to the nuclear disaster is 1.1 times the alarm limit in radiation. Leave it, your comment is very, very callous in view of what the Japanese people and humanity in general are facing. Btw, were you making the same comments for Chernobyl? That, sure it's bad, but we are going to learn from it so that's good? Let me tell you something, cause you seem young, we can't afford to learn by nuclear disasters, we should have learned already what we needed to have learned (back in the cold war era), because you don't get many chances with radiation, and even one disaster, is one disaster too many. I do not use a continuously-connected Time Machine. I keep my TM backups on a drive that connects via USB and it normally resides in my fire-proof safe. TM is only active once a week (or so) when I decide to backup.
I know, all the Mac users who work their machines 24/7 are probably aghast at the idea of not letting TM have 24/7 wireless access. But maybe my technique will prevent the type of TM loss mentioned above... so long as I don't let Sophos run when my backups are going on??

This is not a question of Appleinsider being reliable, more a matter of rumor sites making a guess that is absolutely obvious. There is no way that Apple could _not_ use Merom in the future, since Intel will sell it at exactly the same price that it charges for Yonah today.
Well, Steve Jobs could always announce that Apple is transitioning to PPC G6 chips, and that the x86 reign is over ;)

Given the above news, NO cellphone company may soon be subsidizing ANY phones.
All it says is that cellphone owners can break the locks. It doesn't say cellphone operators have to help them. It also refers to specific instances where the software itself has to be modified to unlock a phone. It is already legal, because it's not a copyright violation, to unlock, for example, Nokia phones, whose locking code is actually algorithmically generated and therefore requires no copyright violation to use.
Truth is, most countries have no laws against breaking SP locks, and many countries, notably most in Europe, have laws forcing operators to unlock phones on demand. And yet most countries still have operators that sell subsidized phones in exchange for contracts. So no, this change will make no difference as far as subsidized handsets go.

The iPhone 4 is already dated relative to other phones on the market. To have a phone on the market for 18 months without an update is insane.
Why because it doesn't have a dual core processor, 1GB of RAM and a 3D screen with 5G radio?

Yes, Since the gps/speaker are connected via bluetooth, they work independently from the tom tom app. Even google maps is faster.

(1) How will users on other than FAST cable modems get Loin?
(2) How can we make emergency backups? I've been in a number of places were downloading gigabytes of data was not a viable option.
(3) Did this idea spring from the "mind" of the same genius who came up with the New and Improved Apple Discussion boards?

I also think Apple will leave the MB with Yonah. They will want product differentiation and price differentiation.
So I think they will drop the price to <$1000.00 for MB and re-design MBP to provide enhancements similar to MB but with faster Merom CPU's and higher price than MB.
To be honest, I bought a MacBook and I am happy with it; it has best price/performance ratio of all the Mac notebooks and I didn't want to spend too much money (just bought it for fun). But if Apple tried to sell a MacBook with Yonah while selling MacBook Pro with Merom, where I know exactly that they could get Merom chips at the same price as Yonahs, just for "product differentiation", I would tell them to stuff it.

Yea, Amazon is in a WAY better position technology wise, and track record wise with this kind of service. I guess we'll have to wait and see what Apple has up there sleeve.

It's inaccurate because it doesn't track YOUR location, just the location of your nearest Cell Tower.

Because it's rapidly becoming the case that EVERYTHING can be produced more cheaply in places like China and India -- even things that were previously thought to be "safe" industries (medical X-Rays are read in India / China, legal documents are authored overseas and sent back to the US to be signed) because they required and educated or advanced workforce.
So, I turn the question back to you -- how will you afford to buy an iPod when you are asked to take a substantial (50% or more) pay cut because an individual in India or China can do YOUR job more cheaply.
Globalization is a race to the bottom, and nobody seems to understand that while the 3rd world rises up, the 1st world inevitably must slide down.
And then the price of labor in those producing countries will rise. Then return to other countries. it cycled back and forth.

oh, the MB will get Merom, probably just not for a little while. The MBP has been shipping for 6 months, the MB for only 2. The MBP looks a little weak on price/performance compared to similar PC laptops; the MB holds up very well in price/performance comparisons. The MB is still selling so well apple can hardly keep the white models in stock, whereas demand for the MBP is much lower.
So rest assured, the MB will see Merom, but the MBP will see it first. Probably soon. :)

Yes, the interface do looks similar, but one thing most people are forgetting here is that it's not the home screens that look alike it is the Touchwiz app drawer that looks similar to the home screen, not the Touchwiz home screen.

OK, being an Australian, and blissfully ignorant to the ways of the American, when is Thanksgiving? Before or after Paris?
I say new iPods at Paris, and maybe some software. It would be great if all Macs were Core 2 Generation before the Paris Expo.
